Citybus - Volvo Olympians from CMB

In 1998, China Motor Bus (CMB) ceased to operate franchised bus routes and sold all the air-conditioned buses in the fleet to New World First Bus except 2 Volvo Olympians and 8 Dennis Darts with Marshall bodies.

The 2 Volvo Olympians are VA62 (HP 9730) and VA64 (HR 1121). They had been stored on the roof of the CMB Chai Wan Depot together with other retained buses, as shown in the photograph dated 1999/11/06 above.

In 2001, the 2 Olympians were finally sold to Citybus. The bodies were repainted to standard Citybus livery. Nevertheless, Citybus did not make significant changes to them. The only exceptions are provision of continuous lighting inside compartment and electronic route display system. As compared with other Citybus Olympians, these 2 buses can be recognized from their curved windscreens and single-leaf front entrances. The 2 buses are numbered as 1041 and 1042 respectively, following the last 11-metre Volvo Olympian, 1040, in the Citybus fleet, since the 2 buses have the same length.

Photographs of the 2 buses are available on the following pages.
