In late 1991, China Motor Bus ("CMB") introduced 5 Alexander bodied 11-metre Leyland Olympians with air-conditioning (LA1-LA5) for evaluation purpose and further 20 in late 1992.
LA1-5 received the "blue + cream" livery similar to those of the non air-conditioned buses, with large printed "Air Conditioned Bus" words in English and Chinese. In order to design a new livery for air-conditioned buses, CMB tried an experimental colour scheme on LA6. However the colour scheme was not eventually adopted and the body was then repainted to the finalized "white + blue-strips" version.
All 25 LA buses were transferred to New World First Bus in September 1998.
